The trial should show how the deposit releases, how the lining responds and whether fragments or slurry can reach the collection point. Do not extend the method until all three are understood.

The site supplies the residue and lining information. The contractor observes how the deposit responds before applying the same method more widely.
Loosened material is recovered as the work progresses. Any surface change or unexpected layer is reported before the method is extended.
Stop if the lining changes beneath the trial
Coatings, seals, instruments and internal surfaces place practical limits on residue removal. Process tank cleaning may therefore begin with a trial area, with isolation and waste handling agreed before the site visit.
Hardened material around a seam or repair area makes the surfaces needed for inspection part of the cleaning brief. The same location should appear on the cleaning record and the inspector’s brief.
Photographs can show the surface of a hardened deposit but not always its depth or bond to the tank. A trial area may reveal whether the material fractures, softens or needs a different method. Any underlying damage is left visible for the relevant inspector or repair specialist to assess.
