Follow the feed and return routes through dip pipes, recirculation loops and low drains. Record any live line or connection that stays outside the clean.
How a process-tank clean is carried out
Every feed, return, vent and drain that can move product is marked by the site. The contractor then states which shell surfaces, coils, baffles and fittings are included.
Residue becomes clearer after draw-down
Recover usable product separately, then review what remains at low points and behind internals. If the deposit differs from the record, stop and revise the scope before cleaning continues.
Connections and shell work are separate
The handover needs to distinguish cleaned surfaces from connected equipment and product-release decisions.
Dense material changes the first recovery stage

Connected equipment can refill a cleaned process tank
Feeds, recirculation lines, sample points, vents and transfer pipework can retain product after the main vessel has been drained. If those connections are not identified, residue may return to a cleaned surface or a live process may introduce material during the job. The site should name every relevant connection and confirm who controls it. A recirculation branch that stays charged can return residue as soon as a valve moves, so its status belongs beside the shell surfaces rather than in a general note about connected plant.
Internal equipment changes reach as well. Coils, baffles, agitators, supports and level instruments create sheltered areas where product can remain. The contractor uses drawings and safe external photographs to identify those locations, then state which surfaces can be treated from the available openings. If outside access is suitable, remote cleaning may reduce the need for entry.
The next production run determines the finish. Cleaning for maintenance access is not the same as cleaning before a product change. Separate routes for product, washings and residue

At completion, the service record should name treated areas, inaccessible parts and anything visible that may affect the next run. It should not imply that the contractor has approved process quality or restarted the plant.
Before the visit, confirm who can identify the correct vessel and who can answer questions about the connected process. That avoids cleaning the right tank to the wrong production assumption.
Consider a batch vessel with an agitator shaft, dip pipe and recirculation loop. The shell may be reachable from the manway while product remains behind a support or inside a low connection. Naming those parts in the quotation lets the operator check the same route before the next batch.
