Remote Cleaning Before Entry

Measure the opening, tool path, hidden surface and recovery point as one route. Remote cleaning loses its advantage when loosened material cannot leave or the result cannot be viewed.

Guide notes

Prove reach, visibility and drainage from outside

The route includes the opening, tool path, hidden surface and recovery point. Remote cleaning loses its advantage when loosened material cannot leave or the result cannot be viewed.

Measure the opening, bends, internal obstructions and collection point as one continuous route. If any part cannot be reached or observed from outside, that limit needs to appear in the quotation. Compare the remote cleaning service with the site isolation information needed before work starts.

Remote method proof

A remote proposal should show the measured opening and equipment path, how every claimed surface will be viewed, and where loosened material will be collected.

Plan how loosened material will be collected

A remote nozzle can release residue without creating a usable way to remove it. Match the spray position to a drain, suction point or other collection route that remains available throughout the clean.

Direct loosened material to the collection point

Match each opening to the affected surface and the lowest recovery point. If material cannot drain or be extracted from there, the remote method stops at that stated limit.

After remote cleaning, the site’s competent confined-space team assesses isolation, atmosphere, communication and rescue needs before authorising any entry. The work record identifies only the surfaces reached from outside.

Does remote cleaning make a tank safe to enter?

No. Entry safety depends on separate isolation, ventilation, atmosphere testing, supervision and rescue arrangements. Remote cleaning cannot replace those controls.

Can every tank be cleaned from outside?

No. Openings, geometry and the required finish may limit coverage. The contractor states which areas the method can reach and what remains uncertain.

What information helps assess a remote method?

Provide drawings, internal photographs if safely available, residue details and all opening positions. The tank cleaning scope checklist can organise the main vessel details while remote access is assessed.
