Recovered Waste Planning

Size temporary storage for the wash liquid as well as the material already in the tank. Rinsing can create more liquid than the original heel, while dense sludge may move much more slowly.

Guide notes

Plan temporary storage before recovery begins

Temporary storage has to cover what is in the tank now and any wash liquid used during cleaning. Free product, sludge and washings may need separate containers, so collection timing matters before the vessel is opened.

Temporary storage must allow for the material already inside the vessel and any liquid introduced during cleaning. Product, sludge and washings may need separate containers and separate records.

Capacity needed outside the tank

Allow separate capacity for recoverable product, sludge or solids, and liquid introduced by the cleaning method. The last of these is easily missed when temporary storage is sized.

Do not leave collection arrangements until the tank is open

Give free liquid, sludge, solids and introduced washings separate destinations during recovery planning. Record available container space and the collection timing that could stop the clean.

Let collection timing set the recovery pace

A cleaning method may generate more liquid than the original tank heel, while thick sludge can be slow to transfer. Available containment and collection timing therefore affect how the job is ordered. For sludge-heavy work, the tank sludge removal service connects recovery to the vessel floor and outlet arrangement.

Can all cleaning liquids go to the site drain?

That should never be assumed. The site must confirm what its drainage and treatment arrangements can accept, based on the material and applicable controls.

How can recovered quantity be estimated?

Contents records, tank profile and observed deposit depth can support planning, but deposits are rarely uniform. Containment should allow for uncertainty without relying on an invented exact figure.

What paperwork will be provided?

The required records depend on the agreed roles and route. List them in the quotation and use the tank cleaning handover record to organise completion details.
